The burden of working to support the family is thrust upon many children living in slum areas at early ages, sometimes as early as seven or eight years old. These children engage in all types of hazardous labour , selling balloons, working at tea stalls, picking rags, or shining shoes at the side of the street to contribute to their household ;s income. They are robbed of their childhood and naiveté of curiosity and the ability to discover their innermost desires and talents thorough fun activities. Seeing and working with these children through bal Sanskar, Tution Project, Earn and Learn Project, and Street Schools, Manav Sadhna developed the Saturday Special Program to bring childhood back to them. Every Saturday , 150-170 children involved in all of these projects come to Manav Sadhna. They say an all religion prayer and then proceed to be involved in two hours of fun, games, and value based activities. Through the Saturday Special, the children can form relationship with one another, learn life values, and hygiene and sanitation. This project also allows the unique talents that each child has to come out through different venues like storytelling, songs, dance and arts and crafts. At the end of the day, the children are given a tasty, filling meal which is offered by individuals and group of people.
