FAMILY PLANNING

For underprivileged families, any increase in the family size puts a greater strain on already limited resources.  Each new member comes with a need for food, clothes, healthcare, and education.  In order to break the cycle of poverty and malnourishment, it is very essential to control the population. The Family Planning program has played a vital role in controlling the increasing population in India. Today, Manav Sadhna uses the Anganwadi project as a tool to improve the general welfare of these communities. The program aims to spread awareness in the communities about using various techniques for ensuring there is a suitable age gap between children, using contraceptives, and optionally undergoing a sterilization procedure after having 2 children.  The Government provides free family planning surgery to both men and women, and encourages them with cash rewards. Manav Sadhna assists each woman who undergoes a family planning operation by providing her with one kg of Ghee (clarified butter), an expensive commodity that contains necessary fats and helps to improve physical strength.   This program has become very effective because of the constant involvement of the Anganwadi workers, and helpers in the community. Manav Sadhna and the Government also provide a cash incentive to the Anganwadi workers and helpers to encourage community women to undergo a family planning operation. This year Manav Sadhna’s Anganwadi workers motivated and supported 49 women through the process.
