VADIL VATSLYA
In the Ramapir Na Tekra and other areas which Manav Sadhna works in, there are many elderly members of society who are neglected by their families and neighbors. In most cases, these individuals have either little or no family or those that have family in some cases are unable to be supported by them. With many of the Elderly people in these communities, health problems are common, which make them weak and fragile, thus prevents them from earning a living to support themselves. IManav Sadhna has started several projects to help support these members of the community and to make them a part of society again.

The Vadil Vatsalay project was created to bring love, respect, and happiness to the lives of the most elderly members of the Tekro community and to spread the importance of elderly care. Every Monday, 70 maajis (old women) from the Tekro come to the Community Center to sing Bhajans (prayers), hold Satsangs (group discussions), and talk about their health. During these meetings, Manav Sadhna also provides a nutritious snack. An annual trip is also arranged for the maajis to different locations such as Mandir’s and the seaside. In the past, we took the maaji’s to Somnath-Junagadh. Through these activities, the elderly women who have worked their entire lives are able to relax, form and maintain friendships with each other, discuss common issues, and bond spiritually.

Tiffin Project

The Tiffin Project was started in 2007 to benefit men and women over the age of 70 years old, who live alone in the slum with no one to take care of them. This project provides a tiffin service twice a day, 365 days a year, containing lentils, rice, two vegetable curry’s, and rotis. In addition to this, Manav Sadhna also provides health check ups, medical treatments and medicine to these men and women. We are currently providing tiffins to 7 elderly people.

Long-term Patients Project

As naturally comes with the aging process, many of the elderly people living in the slums have health conditions, but they are unable to provide for themselves, go to the doctor, or afford long-term medicines which is required. This project was started as a way to provide the long-term care and attention which they need. Manav Sadhna therefore regularly follows up on these elderly members, checks their blood pressure, diabetes, heart problems, paralysis and epilepsy and provides their monthly medicines.
