After seeing the lack of basic education and values in other programs with students of standards 5 to 9, it was evident that a program for the younger children needed to be implemented. This new program was set to provide academic and value based education, as well as nutritional and health and hygienic support to our beloved children in the Ramapir no Tekro slum. Manav Sadhna holds daily after school extra helps sessions in the community center for standards 1 through 4 in the mornings from 9 to 11 am. Often times the primary municipal schools are crowded and lack committed teaching staff. By recognizing that a solid foundation in basic academics can facilitate educational growth and value driven education can encourage change within the community, Manav Sadhna introduced BalSanskar Kendra. Our holistic education involves a mullet-faith approach combined with an engaging academic environment, which will bring out the potential of our community’s children.
Around 9 o’clock every morning over 280 small children come through the gates of their community center, cheerfully running into their classrooms where they start their day with a prayer and other activities.
After one hour of experiencing the joys of learning, our children all gather to drink a cup of warm milk together because of the unequivocal connection between nutrition and education. During a nutrition survey we found that many of our children found malnourished. The reason behind this is the lack of proper nutrition, sanitation and hygiene. In order to maintain their health, kids are given 100 grams of fresh milk after they finish their classes.
